Particulate settling behaviour across the Drop 01 line, and the reclassification of settling from a defect into an expected presentation state.

1. Objective

To quantify particulate settling in Drop 01 consumer units and establish whether the resulting stratification requires reformulation, relabelling, or reclassification.

2. Background

Legume-derived beverages carry suspended solids that no shelf-stable formulation fully retains. Settling is expected. The question before Consumer Fluid Dynamics was not whether settling occurs but whether the settled state constitutes a different product from the shaken state.

3. Method

Units were held undisturbed and photographed at fixed intervals across 45 days. Stratification was measured as the ratio of clarified upper volume to total volume. Resuspension was assessed by a standardized ten-second inversion cycle.

Four variants stratified within the expected range and resuspended fully or partially. Garbanzo retained a compacted layer at the base that ten seconds of inversion did not clear; extending the cycle to thirty seconds cleared it, and the guidance was amended to specify thirty seconds without explaining why.

4.1 Lima

Lima recorded the lowest stratification of the line. Investigation established that this was not a result of suspension stability. The contents did not separate into layers because the contents did not appear to differentiate into components capable of separating. Resuspension could not be assessed as there was nothing identifiable to resuspend.

This is consistent with BWL-RS-012 §3.1. The two findings are recorded independently and no combined review has been opened.

5. Determination

Settling is reclassified from a stability defect to an expected presentation state. Under this classification the settled unit and the shaken unit are the same product in two authorized conditions, and no reformulation is required.

Compliance has confirmed that a product cannot fail a specification it defines, and has approved the classification on that basis.

6. Labelling

Containers carry the instruction SHAKE WELL. Following this determination, the instruction is understood to describe an optional transition between two compliant states rather than a corrective action. The wording is unchanged.

7. Limitations

  • Forty-five days is shorter than the shelf life printed on the container.
  • Assessment was visual. No compositional analysis was performed.
  • The OTHER prototype was excluded. It cannot be opened and therefore cannot be poured, photographed, or inverted meaningfully.

8. Conclusion

Suspension integrity across Drop 01 is confirmed under the revised classification. This finding is internally conclusive.
