Flavor Volatility Analysis

Ninety-day flavor drift study across the Drop 01 consumer line. Four variants held profile. One drifted toward the absence of one.

1. Objective

To characterize flavor drift across the Drop 01 consumer line and determine whether observed variation falls within the tolerance published on the container.

2. Method

Sixty units were drawn across the five production variants and held at three storage conditions for ninety days. Panels of six assessed each unit against the reference profile at day 0, 30, 60 and 90. Assessors were drawn from staff and were not compensated, which Compliance has noted may have influenced the results in a direction it declined to specify.

Three variants held profile across all conditions. Garbanzo showed elevated drift under warm storage only, consistent with the jurisdictional irregularities documented in BWL-RS-009 §2.3, though no causal mechanism connects those observations and none is proposed.

3.1 Lima

Lima did not drift toward a different profile. Assessors reported that it drifted toward no profile, describing later samples as progressively less like anything, including less like water. Two assessors withdrew. The panel was unable to score day 90 because the scoring instrument requires the selection of at least one descriptor.

Consumer Fluid Dynamics has classified this outcome as a presentation characteristic rather than a defect, on the basis that the product does not fail to meet its specification — the specification simply does not describe it.

4. Volatility mechanism

Legume-derived suspensions carry a higher proportion of volatile compounds in the aqueous phase than the reference beverages against which the tolerance was originally written. That tolerance was inherited and has not been revised, because revising it would require identifying who wrote it.

5. Recommendations

  • Retain the published tolerance. Amend the reference profile to accommodate observed values.
  • Continue Lima production. Reclassify rather than reformulate.
  • Route Garbanzo storage guidance through Legume Ethics for jurisdictional confirmation, understanding that confirmation will not be issued.
  • Do not extend this method to the OTHER prototype. The container has not opened, and forcing it is outside the scope of a flavor study.

6. Conclusion

Flavor volatility across Drop 01 is within tolerance as tolerance is currently defined. This finding is internally conclusive and has not been submitted for external assessment.
